It has been a struggle to stay healthy being so busy, mostly because I have issues staying active when I’m so drained for work. For the month of October I decided to get serious and do something to jumpstart a more consciously healthy lifestyle.
I did my first 21 Day Fix over the summer which worked really well so I decided to try it again.
21 Day Fix is a workout and meal plan by Beachbody which is centered on colored containers which represent different food groups. Using a formula based on your weight, you calculate your calorie target and that determines how many of each container you should have each day and how much water you should drink. You are also required to workout for at least 30 minutes everyday.
It’s kind of an elaborate program but it has proven results. It’s also around $60, more if you want the Shakeology option. This gets you workout DVDs, the containers and guides. Don’t worry I did not pay $60 either time I did this.
I did some research and it turns out the lovely Pinterest community have basically revealed the entire program contents! So I created a board, recruited my boyfriend and got to work.
This 2nd time around was a lot different than the first. The first time, the weight fell off and I had more drastic results. This time around I had more subtle changes, losing more inches than pounds. I attribute this to being a little heavier for the most part. Either way I highly recommend the program!
Here’s some of the things I think helped in my success:
- Using the app! There’s a 21 day fix tracker app where you can keep track of your before and after measurements, weight, containers and food intake, water intake, and workouts. It’s much easier to have everything in one place and since it’s on your phone, it’s always with you. I also kept a less elaborte log in my bullet journal.
- Meal prepping! Putting several containers into 1 recipe makes it so much easier. I’m busy, I work two jobs, I don’t wanna count containers all day. I would rather make 2 big meals for the week that I portion out for lunch and dinner which I know include a certain number of containers per serving. My favorite recipe was this sweet potato & black bean chili which was delicious!
- An accountability partner! My boyfriend I have done this together both times and it really helps. Especially since there’s no drinking 😣 it’s great to have a sober buddy (even though he cheats 🙄 lol).
I highly recommend the 21 day fix if you’re looking to jumpstart a more healthy lifestyle, reach your fitness goals or just wanna do some body maintenance.
